Mr. Alvin’s guidance in IB HL Biology greatly improved my understanding and performance in the subject. His thorough explanations and engaging teaching style made learning enjoyable and motivating. The comprehensive notes and wide range of practice questions given at the end of each class also helped to reinforce my understanding and recall, making me more confident and passionate about the subject.

Working with Mr. Alvin had a significant impact on my IB Biology journey. Through his consistent guidance, I was able to greatly improve my academic performance and develop confidence in the subject. His meticulous feedback on my Internal Assessment and his ability to break down complex concepts into clear explanations really helped in the long run, where I was completely confident when I eventually sat for the exams. Mr. Alvin’s patience and attentiveness ensured that I was always well-prepared for my classes, and his approachable demeanor made the learning process more effective and enjoyable!

Mr. Alvin’s tutoring was the reason I achieved a 7 in Biology. He has so many helpful resources, from detailed notes he wrote himself on every single topic to a strong ability to explain not just the content, but also the technicalities to how exam questions are written and how to answer them to get full marks. His lessons really boosted my confidence in the subject and massively helped my grades. His lessons are interactive and he made me genuinely enjoy and love biology.
Mariko Mita - UWCSEA (East) class of 2024, Cornell university Business Administration
Learning with Mr. Alvin honestly became one of the best parts of my whole IB journey. I’ve never been a fan of Mathematics — in fact, I dreaded it — but somehow he made every lesson something I actually looked forward to. His energy, his passion, and the way he explained things just made everything click. We joked around a lot and had so much fun, but despite all that, the results really spoke for themselves. When I first joined him, I was sitting at a 4 for my Year 5 EOY exam. I still remember how discouraged and lost I felt. Fast forward to my final IB exams in November 2022, and I ended up scoring 93%. Even now, that jump feels surreal, and I know for a fact I wouldn’t have been able to achieve it without him. What I appreciated most was how much he genuinely cared. During those stressful nights and last-minute panic moments, he was always there on WhatsApp answering all my (sometimes stupid) Math questions — even when I was pulling all-nighters. I could always count on him. And even though he only taught me Math, he still went out of his way to advise me on my Biology IA because he wanted to see me do well. It showed how deeply he cares about his students (besides his love for instant coffee). He tailored his teaching to my very haphazard learning style, and I really felt seen and supported. It might sound cliché to say this, but I genuinely mean that was the best IB Math tutor I could’ve asked for. I’m truly grateful for everything he’s done for me and we still keep in contact up till now.

Mr. Alvin made Chemistry genuinely enjoyable for me. His engaging lessons and clear explanations helped me understand the subject so much better, and the notes and practice materials he provided were comprehensive and covered everything that was needed. Learning under him was truly meaningful, he not only taught me how to study the subject effectively but also guided me to think more critically and approach problems with confidence. His patience, encouragement, and genuine dedication made a huge difference in my IB journey. I also really appreciated how he supported us, from reviewing our IA and EE to sharing useful examples for reference. It is clear that he cares deeply about his students and truly loves teaching. I’m very grateful to have been taught by him!

Mr. Martin was an amazing tutor as he helped me understand each physics concept clearly by breaking down complex theory into easier-to-understand components. This was especially helpful for learning the new syllabus because he would go through questions step-by-step, showing how each step interlinks with a theoretical concept. Mr. Martin also provided many real-life examples so I could understand the content better. I not only learned the background information, but I was also able to solve questions in a logical and concise manner!
Kate - SISS Germany, admitted into Oxford, Law
Working with Mr. Martin was a total game-changer for me! Not only did he help me crush my reports and subjects in math and physics, but he also brought out the best in me as a person and a student. Under his guidance, I saw huge improvements in my grades, but more importantly, I gained confidence and a growth mindset that I'll carry with me for life. Mr. Martin's patience, expertise, and encouragement made all the difference - he's more than just a teacher, he's a mentor and a role model. I'm forever grateful for his support and can't recommend him enough!
George - ACS (INDEPENDENT) CLASS OF 2022, SINGAPORE, ADMITTED INTO UCL, ECONOMICS
When I first started lessons with Mr. Martin in Year 5, my mathematical foundations were incredibly poor. A year prior, I had scored just 60% for my Year 4 end of year examinations. Heading into Year 5, everyone thought I was crazy to take HL Math. I had even failed the aptitude test my school administered to assess students' suitability for the course. With such a weak foundation, my teachers strongly advised against taking HL math as a subject. Despite this, I chose to persevere, promising myself to work hard to improve my grades. Under Mr. Martin's tutelage, I managed to achieve a Grade 7 in Mathematics Analysis and Approaches HL for my IB examinations, something that I felt was impossible at the start of Year 5. What struck me most about Mr. Martin was his passion for teaching. From our very first lesson, he met me at my level and explained even the most complex concepts in a way that finally made sense. He had a unique ability able to break down abstract ideas clearly, and never made me feel stupid or inadequate for not understanding something. In fact, he encouraged us to ask clarifying questions if we were ever in doubt. This approach not only strengthened my mathematical skills, but also gave me the confidence to tackle challenging problems independently. Mr. Martin was able to take a subject that I feared and dreaded and turned it into one that I felt in control of and genuinely enjoyed. I couldn't thank him enough for his support he extended to me during my 2 years studying for my IB examinations!
